Former World No.4 Greg Rusedski believes
Emma Raducanu is set to have an incredible future, adding that the 18-year old has the potential to win multiple Grand Slams.
Raducanu shocked the tennis world with her amazing run to the US Open title as a qualifier, becoming the first player, male or female, to achieve this feat. Even more impressive is the fact that the British teenager was playing in just her second Grand Slam event, having reached the fourth round in her Major debut at Wimbledon earlier this year.
Rusedski, a former British No.1, predicts that Raducanu will end her career with multiple Grand Slam titles and could even sit atop the WTA Rankings by becoming World No.1.
"I think she’s going to be a multiple Grand Slam champion. I think she has the potential to be a world number one,” said Rusedski. What she has done in her first two majors, there’s very few that have done. She got to the fourth round of Wimbledon in her first major and then she’s gone on to win the US Open."
Rusedski added that Raducanu would join an elite group of players who had achieved this feat, with each woman going on to have fantastic careers.
“There’s only three other female players that have got to the fourth round or better in both events in their first two majors," said Rusedski. "Chris Evert, who was world No 1 and multiple Slam winner, Jennifer Capriati, world No 1 and multiple Slam winner, and Monica Seles, so she joins that category of elite superstars.
“We’ve never seen this in the game before, for someone to come through qualifying and go on to win a major, so her future is going to be exceptional so long as she can stay healthy, put the right team around her. I think her future is going to be incredible."
