The Entry List has been confirmed ahead of the 2024 Bastad
Open, which will take place between 15-21 July, featuring a stellar draw led by
Rafael Nadal,
Andrey Rublev, and
Casper Ruud. The tournament, played on clay
right after Wimbledon, will see several players taking the opportunity to
compete on clay before the Olympics.
It will be a competitive field for an ATP 250, with three
top-10 players and the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal among the
competitors. The Spaniard received a wildcard and this will be his first
tournament since his early exit in the first round of the French Open.
Nadal, Rublev, and Ruud among top competitors
The favourite for the title was set to be world No. 1 Jannik
Sinner, returning to an ATP 250 after his win at the Libema Open in
s'Hertogenbosch. But the Italian decided to withdraw ahead of the tournament after a poor Wimbledon.
The top seed now is world No. 6 Andrey Rublev, who seeks to
defend his 2023 title. Recently, the Russian Tennis Federation confirmed that
Rublev will miss the Olympics, choosing to use that time to recover physically
before the hard-court swing after Paris 2024.
Another title contender is the 2021 champion and 2023
runner-up Casper Ruud. The world No. 8 aims to quickly find his rhythm on clay
and be in top form for Paris, where he is a strong medal contender. Similarly,
Rafael Nadal will also be present in Bastad, the only tournament he will play
before the Olympics after deciding to skip the grass swing to avoid surface
changes.
The draw also includes players like
Tallon Griekspoor (No.
27),
Mariano Navone (No. 29) and
Cameron Norrie (No. 39) with
Kei Nishikori recently withdrawing.
