Ex-coach of the former world number one Serena Williams, Rennae
Stubbs, has revealed one thing she does not like about
Aryna Sabalenka when she
loses the final. The 27-year-old, who is widely regarded as the best player
currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category, has had a mixed
season this year according to her own high standards.
Sabalenka, this year, has featured in four finals, where she
ended up losing three of them. Her first defeat this year came in the final of
the Australian Open to America’s Madison Keys with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
She then lost in the final of the Indian Wells to Russia’s young tennis
sensation Mirra Andreeva with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Her most recent defeat in the final of an event came at the
Stuttgart Open, where she came second-best against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1. Sabalenka’s only win in the final this
year came at the Miami Ope,n where she defeated America’s Jessica Pegula in straight
sets with a score of 7-5, 6-2. Stubbs has recently spoken in her own podcast where she stated that she has now become tired of Sabalenka’s sarcastic comments about her team after losing the final.
“One thing I am getting a little bit tired of with Aryna,
and listen we all love the histrionics and the crazy in the speeches, but I am
really tired of her going after her team when she loses with sarcasm,” said
Stubbs. “I’m over it. When she loses it’s just like at this point, alright,
stop telling your team hey guys great job today every time. It has gotten
stale. So we have got to up that. Got to thank your team or not, and stop
giving them s—. Because it’s so passive aggressive and a little annoying. And
then she tries to laugh and it’s like it’s not funny.”
