In our
Daily Dose of Social Media, we look back at the day that was at the Madrid Open in particular with
entertainment and some of the best moments from the second full day.
Aryna Sabalenka has finally bought her Porsche,
Joao Fonseca picked his perfect player while
Veronika Kudermetova was in tears after defeating sister Polina earlier today.
Aryna Sabalenka finally buys a Porsche after Stuttgart heartbreak
Four finals, four defeats and Aryna Sabalenka has got that sick of losing in the final of the Stuttgart Open that she stuck to her word and has bought a Porsche, she confirmed before Madrid starts.
"First of all, I want to congratulate Jelena and her team on a great week, you played really great this week," she said afterwards.
"You were a better player than me today, that's all about it so well done. Enjoy driving this beautiful car!
"I'm glad I can afford this car, so you know what? After this final, I'm going to go and order one because I guess this is the only way for me!"
But now she has as she spoke prior to Madrid: "I did order my car, I think we're going for GTRS Purple and full car I'm so tired of losing in the final so I decided to go for the craziest car there is. It's going to be fast driving in Miami."
Elena Rybakina mobbed by fans in Madrid
Elena Rybakina will face Bianca Andreescu in the second round of the Madrid Open, that was confirmed today but the former Wimbledon champion seems to have her fans in the city.
Rybakina was mobbed by kids mainly who were standing waiting for players to finish practice and was signing autographs for the masses assembled.
For a player who is known for her Ice Queen demeanour, she seems to have entered the hearts of many.
Joao Fonseca picks perfect player
Joao Fonseca will be on the list for some players of their own perfect player some day but how does he rank others. He was recently asked.
He picked Juan Martin del Potro for forehand. Known for exquisite shot making and ability to dictate points, it is perhaps not first pick for some but is a shrewd one. The backhand as expect belongs to Novak Djokovic widely regarded as one of the most consistent of all time.
Net play, Roger Federer dominates. He has picked both his Volley and Slice to form part of his perfect player. For the serve, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard with his servebot type aim is picked. He is well known for his insane delivery of the ball and his matches with Reilly Opelka for instance are either hell for some or heaven for others who love to see aces and teeing off on the serve.
Movement has been given to Rafael Nadal with court coverage and defensive skills to rival the greatest of players. The same can be said for mentality which was also picked by the Brazilian.
Gael Monfils breaks records again
Gael Monfils has done it again. He continues to defy belief by becoming the oldest player ever to win a main draw match in Madrid.
Monfils recovered for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Borna Gojo. The latter won one of the fastest sets of recent memory before Monfils settled into the tie and took it the distance going on to win.
It has been a good week in the G.E.M.S household with Monfils teaching his daughter Skai how to play tennis and his wife Elina Svitolina also impressed winning the Rouen title with Gael in tow.
Monfils promised to head to Rouen if she was in the final and he did just that before they now play Madrid together this week. A power couple at the top of their game right now and even in his late 30's, Monfils still has the magic.
Veronika Kudermetova in tears after defeating sister Polina
In Stuttgart, Mirra Andreeva faced off Erika Andreeva but sisters facing off is very much not a common occurrence. Albeit today at the Madrid Open, we did see such a moment as Veronika Kudermetova faced off against Polina Kudermetova in a career first meeting.
The latter Kudermetova has had much more success recently and has been proving her worth as the star of the family after Veronika blazed a trail for so long. But it was a 6-2, 6-2 win for Veronika today.
They hugged afterwards at the net as Polina took it great but as Veronika sat down, she was in tears on the bench. Not the best sight and perhaps the only player that as a draw you don't want is your older or younger sibling.
A rock and a hard place for both but Veronika now has a chance against Paula Badosa who has suffered with her back horrifically as of late.
Emma Raducanu showing deft touch in football
Step aside Real Madrid as
Emma Raducanu showed her own deft touch with a football prior to her opening win today at the Madrid Open.
The former US Open champion was superb as she took down Suzan Lamens 7-6, 6-4. She now faces Marta Kostyuk in the second round. The Brit was filmed prior to her win showing off her football skills.
'When in Madrid, do like the Madristas' captioned Sky Sports and it is very apt before a confidence boosting win.
Bencic steamrollers past Sonmez for a reason....
Belinda Bencic was one of the best winners on Wednesday at the 2025 Madrid Open and she won 6-0, 6-2 in just an hour. After early exits in Miami and Charleston, she was back on dominant form.
But Bencic admitted post match that she won so quickly as it is her daughter Bella's first birthday so they have to rush off to celebrate it as it made her a tad emotional.
"I have a birthday party to attend. It’s my daughter’s first birthday, so it’s super special and I’m emotional already.”
As she said it, she had to wipe away a tear. Certainly a milestone to celebrate and one that will see any player either lose quickly or in Bencic's case win super quick.
