Alcaraz knocks out Zapata Miralles and reach his first final of the year

Carlos Alcaraz needed only two sets to beat his compatriot Bernabé Zapata Miralles at the Argentina Open

Another great performance gave the former US Open champion in Buenos Aires. In his debut at the second round Alcaraz defeated the Serbian Laslo Djere in his first game of the season and in the quarterfinals he comfortably beat the also Serbian Dusan Lajovic.His compatriot Zapata Miralles had put in a strong performance this week, picking up a victory over Pedro Martínez in the first round, before defeating the local and 4th seed Diego Schwartzmann in the round of 16. In quarterfinals, he defeated fellow Argentine and 5th seed Francisco Cerundolo, achieving one of the best weeks of his career.

At the Guillermo Vilas Court, Alcaraz showed the winning mentality that had already dazzled the tennis world, and he is already seen as one of the candidates to fight for the big trophies.

The first seed showed that he started his season with the intention of winning every match he plays, and he just conceded 4 games, to reach to the final by double 6-2.

In the final he’ll play against Cameron Norrie, who defeated Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets, and has shown a great game even though he is not a clay specialist.

Despite the loss to the former world No.1 starting Monday, the 26-year-old tennis player will achieve a career-high ranking of world No. 63.
