Mirra Andreeva took down Magdalena Frech with relative ease 7-5, 6-3 and will now face Yuliia Starodubtseva for a spot in the Quarter-Finals, her best result at the
Madrid Open.
Andreeva sat down with Tennis Channel after her win and said she doesn't want to turn 18 with her birthday on Tuesday and also discussed what she wants from herself for even further improvement,
"I would like to see myself being more aggressive. Doesn't matter what the score is as sometimes I tend to wait for the mistake a little bit when the score is tight but I know myself I play my best tennis when I don't really care about the score. I remember the way I played in Indian Wells and I was super confident about myself and I went for all the shots. That's what I'm going to try to do," said Andreeva on
Tennis Channel.
But while she won Indian Wells and Dubai, this brings about a new dilemma. She started off on clay so of course would think she is better on that but is now doubting her own thought process.
"Now I can say that I'm maybe better on hard courts. But I'm going to try to do my best on clay. Clay court is more natural to me, I grew up playing on the clay. So I feel super comfortable playing on this surface. I'm going to try my best to win a title or two on a clay court."
But while she is still a kid in the minds of many, by the way of the law she will be legally allowed to drink and go out apart from the in the States from Tuesday and she doesn't want to become 18.
"I don't want to be responsible for myself," she said groaning. "I think that Mirra 12 months ago was still surprised with how she plays on the court. She was also surprised with beating top players. But I think Mirra that is here today she can rely more on herself. She trusts herself more on the court. She knows what to expect from herself when she plays the match. I feel a bit more confident but it's not self confidence. I'm more confident in my tennis. I'm happy you can see a bit of a difference and that I'm improving."
But while she has become a big star, she said that aside from mixed doubles she hasn't been flooded with starstruck players who are gushing about her.
"There are a lot of fans and I'm super happy that they come and support. Players I don't know, everyone kind of knows me already. They just approach me and congratulate me if I win something. The atmosphere is super friendly."
