It is
Mirra Andreeva's last weekend as a teenager with the 17-year-old set to become 18 on Tuesday but some things never change and that includes a run to the Last 16 of the
Madrid Open.
Andreeva who made her name at the Caja Magica two years ago is into the Last 16 for a third straight year and from 15 to now basically 18, it is the same equation being an Andreeva win 7-5, 6-3 over Magdalena Frech.
Next up is likely going to be Liudmila Samsonova who is currently a set up against Yuliia Starodubtseva. But Andreeva has now won 16 of her last 18 matches, it is a 23rd win of the year with only really defeats in Miami and Stuttgart to Amanda Anisimova and Ekaterina Alexandrova being blots in the copy book.
She is joined in the doubles latter stages by her partner
Diana Shnaider who also booked her Last 16 singles spot in even more emphatic fashion on Saturday.
She opened the session against Anastasija Sevastova who perhaps is one of the best stories of a return to the tour after injury but it wasn't to be anything over than a devastating win for Shnaider.
She eased through in a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 in just 44 minutes. She has now won two matches in a row for the first time since the Australian Open. She only faced two break points overall and Sevastova only had two game points on serve.
True domination from Shnaider who seemed on a similar trajectory to her doubles partner but started the year poorly. She ditched her coach at the back end of last year and has recently recruited Dinara Safina after having her dad as a stand-in for a period of time.
Having the former World No.1 in tandem seems to be working dividends as she moves through joining Andreeva in the Last 16.
