Alex de Minaur is the latest player into the Quarter-Finals of the ABN AMRO Open Rotterdam as he continues his incredible form not only overall but at this tournament. He has reached this point of the draw on the past four separate occasions.
Sealing the win in just under an hour and a half, he will now face the winner of Arthur Fils and Daniel Altmaier and he also sits in the section of the draw which lost Daniil Medvedev.
So after reaching the final last year and losing to his nemesis Jannik Sinner, the path should be clear for another final run. Only really Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tallon Griekspoor should pose any sort of threat who he will face in the semi-finals.
He also becomes the first player to achieve the four in a row after three-time champion in the tournament Roger Federer. Also he is on a 10-match winning streak against players ranked outside the top 20 so when he needs to pick his battles he does so to great effect.
Especially in this case against a rising upstart who continues to dazzle in the tennis world. He was broken to begin the opening set as De Minaur went 3-2 up, he consolidated and eased to the set from there barely giving the Czech ace a sniff.
The second set was more of a war of attrition with Mensik and De Minaur continually holding quite comfortably. But De Minaur managed to hold emphatically then edge a break which saw him en route to the victory 6-4.
Fils who he could face next is a set down to Altmaier while Andrey Rublev is currently in a tie break with Fabian Marozsan. Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune are to come later today in Rotterdam. As well as the tie between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tallon Griekspoor.
Alex de Minaur becomes the second player to reach 4 consecutive quarterfinals at the #abnamroopen after defeating Jakub Mensik: 6-4 6-4. 👏
