Alexander Zverev won't play any tennis this year but the German is facing a chance of not playing tennis deep into 2023 due to bone oedema.
Zverev recently revealed a setback in his recovery process admitting to experiencing bone oedema which is a complicated issue to resolve. He was supposed to make his return at the Davis Cup in September but he cancelled that due to experiencing pain in his ankle.
The pain comes from the condition and he later cancelled the rest of the season wanting to prepare better for 2023. tennis news Twitter account Relevant Tennis offered a more sinister reason as to why he cancelled it, and it's not very good news for tennis fans.
The tweeted a picture of Zverev with the caption:
"According to NLM (National
Library of Medicine), if untreated, bone edema [Zverev's current issue]
resolves within 3-9 months. Anyways, there are treatment strategies
(conservative or surgical) that aim to reduce pain and healing time.
Other sources talk about 4-12 months of time to recover.”
Zverev himself hinted at something like that when he spoke about the issue saying he could be out weeks or even months and that shows that the issue is quite a significant one. It's terrible news for Zverev who could miss a big chunk of the 2023 season.
