The world number 3, Carlos Alcaraz, won with total authority against Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round of the Australian Open. At the end of the match, the Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion left an enigmatic message at the traditional camera signing.
"Am I a serving robot?" wrote Carlos Alcaraz at the end of his match against world number 63 Yoshihito Nishioka. And no wonder, Carlitos was relentless on serve, a key factor for his crushing 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
Alcaraz registered an impressive 14 aces in the match and did not yield a single break point to his opponent.
"It's a big advantage in the Grand Slams to try to play the shortest amount of time possible. I felt very good and tried to finish the match fast," said the Spaniard in the interview after his victory in just over an hour of play.
"In the first round it was hard for me to consolidate my serve but today I was more focused. I'm dedicating a lot of time to it and today it worked very well, hopefully it will continue like that in the next match."
"I'm physically stronger, I've been told I look better so I'm glad to hear that," the No. 3 declared with a chuckle in response to the presenter's question regarding his change of attire.
"That's why I want to win this tournament someday: to put my name on that very exclusive list. I work every day to be ready when that moment comes. Hopefully it will be this year. Day by day. Let's see how it feels. Right now, I'm thinking about the next round. I hope I can go further," concluded the winner of 4 Grand Slams.
Alcaraz awaits in the third round for the winner of the duel between Jordan Thompson and Portugal's Nuno Gomez. Will he be able to win his first title in Melbourne?
