The American duo of
Ben Shelton and
Mackenzie McDonald kept home hopes alive on Friday, as they saved two match points to reach the doubles final at the 2023
DC Open.
Shelton and McDonald pulled off a 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 victory Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara, ousting the third seeds to the delight of the home crowd. Despite trailing 7-9 in the match tie-break, the crowd favorites rallied back to win the match after an hour and 17 minutes.
First ATP final for Shelton
The American pairing have teamed together on three previous occasions this season, but have never experienced this level of success. This will be Shelton's maiden ATP final, and the duo will face the winner of the other semifinal between the duo of Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, and the team of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
