Andy Murray US Open 2021
Andy Murray is back in action participating at the Rennes Challenger this week and he started off with a solid win 6-3 6-1.
Murray played his first match since the US Open epic he had against Stefanos Tsitsipas where he almost pulled off an upset. The defeat was a tough one to swallow but the Brit was keen to get back onto the court to try and build up some form before the season continues later on. His opponent was Maden from Germany and initially, it was a very close match.
Points were competitive but neither player was able to break the other down. Murray was the first on the strike later in the set taking a break at 4-3 for the 5-3 lead. He then closed the opening set with 6-3. A decent set from Murray who struggled a lot on his serve hitting less than 50 %. The 2nd set featured even better play by Murray who took a break fairly early.
He would add another one later on after some stellar play. Maden, who is mainly a challenger player was no match for Murray especially as he struggled with his serve from start to finish. Murray served better in the 2nd set and played better on return attacking Maden on his weaker 2nd serve.
All in all, it was more than enough to win the opening match at the event against a player whom Murray should routinely beat. The final score was 6-3 6-1 with the match lasting one hour and 10 minutes.
