Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz may have faced some ups and downs at this point in the season, but a change in coaches is not the solution to any issues, according to renown coach Rick Macci.

The reigning Wimbledon champion kicked off his 2025 campaign with a quarterfinal showing at the Australian Open, before winning his first title of the season at the Rotterdam Open. However, Alcaraz would suffer unexpected losses in Doha and Indian Wells, before crashing out in his opening round match at the hands of Belgian veteran David Goffin at Miami Open.

Alcaraz does not need a new coach, says Macci

The 70-year old American is known for his ability to scout tennis greats, having trained the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick during their early years. Macci revealed he was asked if Alcaraz needed to part ways with current coach Juan Carlos Ferrero and seek help elsewhere in order to overcome his current slump.

"Was asked during a podcast about Carlos and a possible coaching change," tweeted Macci. "Anybody in tennis that thinks that should take up Golf. Regarding grass it might look greener elsewhere but it also could be slippery. By the way the Spanish Magician did ok at Wimbledon. @carlosalcaraz"

Alcaraz is currently competing at the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he has advanced to the quarterfinals after recording a 6-3 6-1 victory over German Daniel Altmaier. Awaiting the Spaniard in the final eight is Frenchman Arthur Fils, with the duo set to meet for the first time on the ATP Tour.
