The Immigration Minister of Australia Alex Hawke confirmed the country is open to rescinding the 3-year ban imposed on Djokovic following his deportation.
Djokovic flew to Australia after being granted a medical exemption for the
Australian Open but the Australian authorities didn't let him play unvaccinated. However, he was deported from the country on the order of Minister Hawke who deemed Djokovic a threat to public security due to his unwillingness to get vaccinated.
The Serbian was being celebrated by anti-vaccination movements and based upon that the Minister used his discretion powers. Now the same Minister confirmed the country is very open to rescinding the decision on the 3-year ban:
“The future for Mr Djokovic is his to decide on how he conducts
himself and what he does internationally. The Australian government has no further role in what he chooses to do”.
He further said that any decision made will be according to the law:
“It’s an important principle of law that I don’t bind a future decision-maker. We have indicated we would consider that, in the same way we would consider any others. We are very open to the consideration”.
