The two most seasoned players on the ATP Tour faced off in the final of the Next Gen ATP Finals. Both Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda have played extensively on the ATP Tour this season with great results. They also played the best tennis in Milan and that is why they played each other in the final. There were some fitness issues with Korda who sustained a groin injury in the previous match but elected to play the match.
Early on it seemed like it did not really bother him as Korda started off really well. He served well and played well especially from the baseline. That created quite a bit of an issue for Alcaraz early as the Spaniard had to save several break points in the first two games. He was able to hold his serve in each game and it proved very important.
After that, we ended up in a tiebreak and it was Alcaraz who was able to come out on top 7-5. The Spaniard produced some magic to win that and Korda would never recover. Injected with confidence Alcaraz started playing a lot better moving forward. Korda played solid overall but it seemed like his groin did bother him at times. It was quite evident when Alcaraz attacked his 2nd serve that he lacked agility.
Alcaraz was determined to attack his every 2nd serve and it proved rather successful both in the 2nd set and the 3rd. Korda continued to battle but ultimately he could not overcome Alcaraz. The final score was 4-3(5) 4-2 4-2 and it proved what many already thought. Carlos Alcaraz is the best young tennis player we have right now.
