Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has opened up about the reasons behind his resurgence in form after disappointing outings in the few competitions. The 21-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the best players in the world along with the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner, has gone through a bit of a rough patch, according to his own high standards.

Things, however, changed in the recent past for the former world number one. Alcaraz is currently taking part in the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he is having an amazing time. The four-time Grand Slam winner cemented a spot in the final of the competition for the first time in his career as he defeated fellow countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4.

Talking after the match, Alcaraz stated that he sat down after an unexpected outing at the Miami Open. The Spaniard stated that he realised he was thinking too much about reclaiming the number one spot in the ATP rankings from Sinner, who is going through a three-month ban.

“Since Jannik was unable to play tournaments, a lot of people were asking me and talking about, you know, how important the moment is that I have ahead to reach number one again or to win tournaments or whatever,” he said. “So probably in a certain way I was thinking so much about it instead of playing my good tennis and enjoying the time that. I’m stepping on the court and playing matches. So after Miami, I realized the path that I have to follow… the things that I have to do... is not thinking about results, is not thinking about anything else but just enjoying. That's the most important thing for me and not hear all expectations or all the things that people are talking about you. So that's what I'm trying to do. That's what I realized that I had to do. I think I'm doing pretty good just thinking about the people that I have around, my family, my team.. and that's it. I think I’m just doing great on that terms.”
