Carlos Alcaraz capped off a historic week in Madrid with a superb performance in the final beating
Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-2 in the final.
Alexander Zverev was playing a superb week of tennis up until the final where he produced a shockingly bad performance considering his comfort level in Madrid. He was 19-2 before this match and it seemed like it would be a spectacular matchup. On paper it was but in reality, it was a one-sided affair with Zverev never arriving.s
Things started strange as Alcaraz hit two bad forehand that looked like he was extremely tired. It looked like Zverev would have a good chance but the Spaniard quickly turned it around with smart play. Zverev on the other looked quite depleted. His serve was not working, the forehand wasn't there he had no response to the youthfulness of Alcaraz who was racing around the court.
As the match went on Zverev looked even worse, especially in the 2nd set where it seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else. Toward the end of it, he kind of rushed a bit as well and the Spaniard was able to finish it off rather quickly. It was a superb display from Alcaraz who won in practically an hour dropping only six points on his serve. To be fair, Zverev could not have played any worse.
