The former U.S.
Open champion
Marin Cilic decided to have knee surgery and admitted that he had
been suffering from an injury for several months that forced him to withdraw
from the
Australian Open. He made the announcement by a post on Twiter:
“Few
challenging weeks to start 2023. After consulting with various specialists, I made
the difficult decision to undergo knee surgery as it seemed the best option for
a long term fix to the injury. Thankfully, the procedure went as well as we could
have hoped.”
“Unfortunately,
this means some time away from the tennis court, but as silver lining, more
precious time at home with my family. I am feeling positive and cannot wait to
get back to the court, but for now big focus is on resting and the rehab journey
ahead.”
Currently
is the world No. 18 and has won 20 tournaments, the biggest in the U.S. Open
2014, when he defeat Kei Nishikori in the final.
Finally he expressed
his gratitude to his fans “Thank you all for the well wishes. Can’t wait to see
you back on Tour!”
