Part Spanish so Alex de Minaur is certainly adept to the clay courts and he showed that today dishing out a beating to Grigor Dimitrov at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

He thrashed the Bulgarian 6-0, 6-0 in just 44 minutes to reach the last four at a clay court tournament for the third time in his career. It was the first double bagel on the ATP Tour in the Quarter-Finals or better since Roger Federer back in 2013 against Mischa Zverev.

So it is an unwanted record set for Dimitrov in the process. He will now face off against Lorenzo Musetti or Stefanos Tsitsipas. They are currently into a third set on Court Rainier III.

“With the troubles I had on this surface at the start of my career, I didn’t quite understand it and how to play well on it," De Minaur said as per ATP about his run on clay. "As the years have gone by, I have grown to understand the things I can do well to become a tough opponent on this surface. I’m very happy that I am playing better and better every year.

“It’s not about hitting hard, powerful shots [on clay]. It’s about opening up the court, using angles, height, and different speeds. Understanding the balance between being too aggressive and too passive.”

De Minaur has the most wins on the ATP Tour during 2025. He owns a 20-6 record ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Either could be a final opponent ironically come Sunday.

He also thrashed Daniil Medvedev yesterday 6-2, 6-2 so this display was perhaps coming albeit it was helped by Dimitrov being woeful on finding his range and De Minaur took advantage of the wild display winning in emphatic style. Also on the day when his fiance Katie Boulter is also bringing success to Team GB in Billie Jean King Cup. It will be a happy household tonight.
