The UTR Rating is one that pros swear by as a barometer for their current ranking in terms of form over the current WTA Rankings that are based on a longer cycle. But despite her recent issues with form, Iga Swiatek emerges as the leader on this alternative ranking.
The rating ranks players between 1.00 and 16.50 based on their recent match results with the algorithm considering the strength of opponents and percentage of games won. Swiatek who often sweeps aside opponents in bagels and breadsticks (6-0 and 6-1) is perhaps a good barometer for that.
She sits top of the Female Rating with 13.11 albeit this is tied with Aryna Sabalenka albeit she is second on the list. The latter won the last big tournament in Miami. Mirra Andreeva who has been in superb form winning Dubai and Indian Wells back-to-back is third with 12.97.
Coco Gauff is fourth alongside Madison Keys in fifth with 12.96 and 12.90 respectively. This also gives a somewhat of a bizarre gauge given that Jessica Pegula reached the Miami final and won Charleston but she sits down in 9th spot.
She is also one of the most consistent players on tour in terms of reaching latter stages but Zheng Qinwen and Elina Svitolina (12.84 and 12.80) as well as Elena Rybakina (12.78) sit ahead of her in the updated rankings.
Jessica Pegula is back on 12.76. But also it shows the form of other players recently. Belinda Bencic has had to withdraw this week from Billie Jean King Cup action but has been one of the best players on tour since her return. She is in 10th with 12.73.
Paula Badosa and Karolina Muchova who sit in that top 10 zone on the main rankings depending on injury for the former in particular are next with 12.71 and 12.67. Naomi Osaka and Marketa Vondrousova are perhaps the surprise names.
Osaka is on 12.66 in 13th while Marketa Vondrousova who has failed to recapture her Grand Slam winning form is down in 15th.
Linda Noskova, Clara Tauson and Emma Navarro also fill out the top 20. As do Amanda Anisimova and Sofia Kenin in 14th and 19th respectively. Anisimova has won Doha this year and had a good run in Charleston. Same can be said for Kenin who reached a surprise final.
