With the
WTA season coming to a close,
Emma Navarro stood out as the player with the
most significant growth in wins between 2023 and 2024. The American tops the
list, sharing it with players like
Danielle Collins and
Mirra Andreeva.
Navarro can
draw highly positive lessons from her rapid adaptation to the WTA Tour. In
2023, she entered the top 100 for the first time and began competing in her
first matches at the WTA level (250 or higher). The American has shown steady
progress, finishing 2024 ranked world No. 8.
Navarro’s breakthrough: Leading the biggest wins growth
One of the
standout newcomers of the season was undoubtedly Navarro, who completed her
first full season at the top level. While most top players take a few years to
achieve consistent wins throughout an entire season, Navarro has been an
exception, regularly defeating more experienced players. This consistency
places her as the player with the biggest increase in wins compared to 2023.
She went from 16 victories in 2023 to 45 in 2024 (+29).
In second
place is 20-year-old Russian
Diana Shnaider (No. 13), who, like Navarro,
achieved 16 wins in 2023 but increased that number to 42 (+26) this year. Her
achievements included winning four titles across all three surfaces and earning
a silver medal in doubles at the Olympic Games alongside Mirra Andreeva.
Although
less noticed, 26-year-old
Yue Yuan from China also delivered a consistent
performance throughout the year, improving significantly from her seven wins in
2023. The Chinese No. 3 secured 29 wins this year (+22), reached her
career-high ranking of world No. 36, and ended the season as world No. 49.
Further
down the list, there’s a three-way tie, led by American Danielle Collins, who
made a remarkable comeback this year after an injury. She improved from 18 wins
in 2023 to 38 (+20) this year, concluding the season with her biggest title at
the Miami Open and ranking world No. 11. Teenager Mirra Andreeva also made
waves, going from 14 to 34 wins, while Britain’s No. 1
Katie Boulter increased
her victories from 11 in 2023 to 31 in 2024.
