The Madrid Open is due to take place between 22 April - 4 May, 2025 with the Entry List set for the ATP edition which is headlined by Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic.
Andrey Rublev was the surprise champion last season defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. It was his second Masters 1000 title and 16th career ATP title. Auger-Aliassime was the first Canadian to reach a Masters 1000 final on clay.
Carlos Alcaraz was two-time defending champion but he lost in the Quarter-Finals to Rublev. Jannik Sinner withdrew in the Quarter-Finals but doesn't play this year anyway. He is currently out with his doping ban which will run until the second part of the traditional pre Roland Garros double.
He will return early May for Rome meaning that Madrid miss out on the World No.1. The field led by the defacto top player in his absence in Alexander Zverev. Also Novak Djokovic returns for the first time in many years.
Last year, he lost at the Monte-Carlo Masters and played Gonet Geneva Open suddenly but he snubbed playing Madrid before losing to Alejandro Tabilo at Rome. But some have remarked that after his water bottle incident last year which saw him hit over the head, he may not return to Rome.
That Entry List is not yet out so it remains to be seen but he will be hoping to hit the ground running in Madrid after also playing Monte-Carlo over the next week.
