Roger Federer was close to winning his match against Pablo Andujar but the Swiss maestro collapsed at the worst possible time.
Roger Federer was close to making a winning return on Swiss soil against Pablo Andujar but a late 3rd set rally from Andujar snatched the win from Federer. The first set did not feature too much excitement as both players played well enough to hold their serve.
The first break point in the match came at 5-4 for Andujar and the Spaniard was able to use it winning the first set 6-4. Federer stood near the baseline when returning which did not prove too fruitful. At the start of the 2nd set, he made an adjustment standing much further back than in the first set and it worked.
Federer took an early 3-1 break which he was able to maintain throughout the 2nd set. His serving improved a lot as he hit 79 % of his first serves compared to only 40 % in the first set. That resulted in him dropping only 3 first-serve points all set long. He employed the same tactic in the final set and once again it worked.
He took an early 3-1 lead thanks to his great serving. A bit of a drop in focus at 4-3 and a few missed serves gave Andujar a rare break ball which he used to tie it up at 4-4. Andujar then won his service game fairly easy and jumped out to a 40-15 lead on Federer's serve.
Roger did not panic and saved both MP's with winners to stay in the match but a point after that Andujar had another one. This time around Andujar was able to win the point and pull off a very good win against Roger Federer.
