Coco Gauff is through to another quarterfinal after defeating Camila Giorgi in straight sets at the
Emilia-Romagna Open.
The American phenom continued her great run as of late defeating native Camila Giorgi 6-2 6-3 at the Emilia-Romagna Open. Gauff is enjoying a great two-week stretch after reaching the semifinals at the Rome Masters. It was a straightforward win for Gauff against Giorgi in 72 minutes as the American controlled the match from start to finish.
Gauff broke Giorgi in the first game and after squandering a few chances to take a double break lead she eventually did so. In the end, she closed the opening set with 6-2. Giorgi did not have a great day serving a Gauff was able to attack her 2nd serve winning 7/9 points on it.
The 2nd set featured much better play from the Italian and an overall more competitive match. The players traded breaks in the first two games before Gauff established control of the match taking the lead. She had to fend off several break points in order to retain the lead but she did so.
In the end, she closed the match with 6-3 breaking Giorgio once more. Gauff has played more consistent tennis as of late and it's showing. Her serving woes continue to plague her as she committed 7 double faults compared to 3 aces.
But today she faced a player who struggled even more when serving. As long as Gauff continues to play stellar when returning she will continue winning but in order to reach new heights, she will need to serve better.
