Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz have both proven their mettle on the red clay, but compatriot Feliciano Lopez believes one would have a massive advantage against the other if the younger Alcaraz had faced a young Nadal in his prime.

Nadal retired following the 2024 Davis Cup in front of his home crowd. The Mallorca native amassed an insurmountable 14 Roland Garros singles titles, setting him apart as the greatest clay court player in tennis history. Conversely, Alcaraz has won one Roland Garros singles title, but still has several years to add more to his growing resume.

Lopez believes a prime Nadal would win every time

Retired American tennis pro Mardy Fish took to social media to inquire whether Alcaraz and current World No.1 Jannik Sinner would win any Majors against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic in their primes. This led to three-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist Feliciano Lopez responding, stating the young duo would not have won any French Open titles with prime Nadal in the mix.

"The only thing I can guarantee is that they [Carlos Alcaraz/Jannik Sinner] would have won zero Roland Garros’ vs Rafa [Nadal] in his prime," wrote Lopez on Twitter.

Furthermore, Lopez speculated that Alcaraz and Sinner would have found it extremely challenging to win any Wimbledon titles if facing a prime Federer and Djokovic.

“Very unlikely also that they would have won [against] RF [Roger Federer] and ND [Novak Djokovic] on the green carpet,” added Lopez.

The Big Three won a combined 35 titles at Wimbledon and the French Open during their illustrious careers.
