With the
Monte-Carlo Masters only a few days away, the tournament organizers have revealed four wildcard entrants to the prestigious clay court event, headlined by three-time Grand Slam champion
Stan Wawrinka.
The first clay ATP Masters event of the season has been dominated by Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has won three of the last four editions - 2021, 2022, 2024. The 2025 edition, which kicks off next week, will see established veterans battle rising youngsters in an attempt to capture a rare ATP Masters 1000 title.
Wawrinka set to feature, Gasquet making last appearance
Tournament organizers announced former World No.3 Wawrinka will be competing at the event, with the 40-year old Swiss star winning the title in 2014. Joining Wawrinka is Italian veteran
Fabio Fognini, who lifted the trophy at the 2019 edition.
Frenchman
Richard Gasquet has already announced his retirement will take place this season, therefore the 38-year old will be making his last appearance at the fan-favorite clay court event after being granted a wildcard entry. Valentin Vacherot, who represents Monaco, has been handed the final wild card spot. The 26-year old will have the opportunity to compete in Monte-Carlo as a wildcard entrant, just as he did at last year's event.
"The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is delighted to welcome these champions, who will further enhance an exceptional field featuring 42 of the world’s top 45 players, including 9 members of the ATP Tour’s Top 10," read a statement on the tournament’s website.
Wawrinka suffered an opening round loss at last year's edition, losing to Australian ace Alex de Minaur in straight sets.
