Geneva Open organizers hope to sign Roger Federer for this year's edition

The sixth edition of the Geneva Open takes place next month at the Tennis Club de Genève at Parc des Eaux-Vives, the oldest and largest tennis club in Switzerland.

Geneva Open had to close its gates in 2020 because of the pandemic, like the entire European clay swing, and the organizers are hoping to gather a strong field of players for the upcoming edition. Roland Garros changed its schedule for a week, creating one week between Geneva and Paris and offering a chance for the players to take a proper rest ahead of the season's second Major.

The Geneva Open organizers will do their best to sign Roger Federer, dreaming about having the 20-time Major winner at the home event. Dealing with a knee injury, Federer underwent two surgeries in 2020 and missed almost the entire season, making a long-awaited return this March in Doha after 13 months.

Roger played two matches and decided to rest and skip Dubai and Miami, working at home and still thinking about his clay schedule. The Swiss star competed in front of the home fans in Geneva in the Laver Cup in 2019, leading Team Europe towards the third straight title, with an excellent chance of playing at home again in a couple of weeks.

"The Roland Garros delay could convince Roger Federer to take a Geneva trip and compete at the home event, in the city he loves so much. Still, we can't confirm anything at the moment. We are working to bring the strongest possible field, and it would be amazing to draw Roger Federer," Geneva Open organizers said.
