David Goffin and Adrian Mannarino had little issues in defeating their opponents and reaching the 3rd round of the US Open.
Both
David Goffin and Adrian Mannarino faced some tough opposition but both of them were quite convincing in their victories allowing them to book places in the 3rd round of the
US Open. David Goffin played a great match against South African Harris who proved more than a worthy opponent. The Belgian had to work hard to crack the armour of
Harris who forced a tiebreak in the 1st set.
In it it was the more experienced Goffin who seized his chance to win it 8-6. Harris wasn't discouraged by the narrow loss and continue to play his game that consisted of a powerful serve with solid baseline play. Goffin struggled a bit more than in the 1st set and allowed Harris chances which the South African took, 6-4 to Harris. The loss of the set motivated Goffin highly who came back as a reborn player in the next set.
Ever since the first point it was obvious that
Goffin turned up the level as he completely smashed Harris to take the set 6-1. He never looked back as he continued playing his well rounded style in the next set as well. Eventually he got a chance to brake his opponent and he took it to end the match with a 6-4 4th set victory.
Adrien Mannarino on the other hand had an easier going against
Jack Sock. Sock had to endure a marathon match in the previous round that saw him play for 5 sets and that match took it's toll late in this match. The start of the match was better for Sock who came out aggressive determined to play short rallies. He jumped out to a lead but lost it soon after that.
We ended up in a tiebreak where Sock once again had the lead but failed to convey it giving
Mannarino chances which the Frenchman happily took. The 2nd set was a similar affair, as Sock once again had the lead but again lost the set 7-5. It was at that time that Sock took a medical timeout but it had little effect as Mannarino proceeded to end the match against his tired opponent with a 6-2 3rd set victory.
