Former world number one Andre Agassi’s ex-coach Brad Gilbert has revealed that Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz has ‘gotten bigger’ in one year.
The 20-year-old is now the talk of the town after winning his maiden Wimbledon last month in London after a memorable five-set thriller against Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Gilbert, in a post on social media platform X previously known as Twitter, stated that he recently met Alcaraz and according to him, he has grown bigger and stronger in the last 12 months.
"Had a nice conversation today with escape from Alcaraz and the mosquito JCF,” he wrote. “One thing for sure, Carlos Alcaraz has gotten bigger this year we were eye to eye and up close looks even stronger, and he said 1st time ever he had experienced hot day in Cincy.
"He told me been to Cincy 3 times never had hot day there, I told him been I’ve been there many times in Cincy weather was like that all week in the 90’s with high humidity Sunday was more a normal day there from the past."
Alcaraz will be hurting after suffering a defeat in the final of the Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) against Djokovic on Sunday with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
However, the Murcia-born will now be looking to turn his attention to defending his crown at the US Open which he won last year after defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin in less than five days where players from all over the world will battle it out to secure the ultimate glory.
