"Happy that I managed to get 50 wins" says Medvedev after notching 50th in Indian Wells

The win sends Medvedev to the next round where he hopes to secure another win and come closer to winning the event. The Russian made it no secret that he believes himself capable of winning it saying that he felt he was going to win in 2019 before it got cancelled due to the pandemic. He also admitted that he is trying to play fewer events than before so winning 50 matches is significant for him:

“I feel like I’m trying to play a little bit less... just playing the biggest tournaments, or the ones that will get me back into shape so I’m really happy that I managed to get 50 [wins]. It means that I was doing pretty good in a lot of them."

Krajinovic proved several times a tricky matchup for Medvedev who barely survived their encounter in Australia earlier this year. Medvedev needed 5 sets to ultimately defeat the Serbian and he faced a similar surge late in the 2nd set but rallied in time to keep it in two.

On Krajinovic he said:

“Filip is a really tough opponent. He’s always playing top tennis, very tough matches, especially that second set. [There were a] lot of ups and downs, but I think a great level from both of us. Really happy that in the tie-break I managed to [gain] the edge on my side.”
