Among the rising male American tennis players, the stock of Taylor Fritz appears to be rising while that of Sebastian Korda is falling, at least according to Andy Roddick.
The former World No.1 lauded Fritz for his performance on clay this season, particularly after his quarterfinal win over defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas at Monte Carlo this year.
However, Korda, who had been battling injury over the past few months, has been struggling to build momentum on the same surface where he is naturally more-skilled than his compatriot.
"Yeah, I think Fritz is our most reliable choice right now," said Roddick when asked if any American players could make noise at the upcoming French Open. "He played great in Monte Carlo, made the semis, had a couple of huge wins along the way there, Tommy Paul, fluid movement.
"Seb Korda slides very naturally on the clay but hasn't had much of a run-up. He has been struggling a little bit to get matches."
Korda’s best performance on clay was at the Emilia-Romagna Open in 2021, where he defeated Italian Marco Cecchinato 6-2, 6-4 to secure the title. By virtue of that win, he became the first American to win on European clay in 11 years.
