Daniil Medvedev called
Carlos Alcaraz the deserved No. 1 pointing out how he is the player who won the most points in the past 52 weeks which is what the rankings show.
Carlos Alcaraz returned to number one in the ATP Rankings following his win over Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final. He replaces
Novak Djokovic who replaced him after beating Tsitsipas in the Australian Open final. The Russian was asked about that following the match and he explained why Alcaraz deserves to be number one:
"Carlos is deservedly World No. 1. He has won more points than everybody else in last 52 weeks, and that's how rankings work. Yeah, he was also year-end No. 1 last year, so that's something I haven't done, so I'll try, for sure, in my career. Yeah."
On Djokovic, Medvedev said:
"Same about Novak. For sure if he would be able to play last year and this year all the tournaments, there is a possibility that the rankings would be different. But... But, there shouldn't be no "buts."
The Spaniard will put that number one rank up to the test in Miami later this week as he's the defending champion from last year.
