Jannik Sinner had a true statement run at Wimbledon nearly ousting Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal of the event.
That impressed many including Cahill who noticed an added maturity to Sinner's game where he is not afraid to take on the biggest of players. His game still has weaknesses and he needs to get physically stronger but even now, Cahill thinks that he has the game to be a grand slam champion. New York has very fast hard courts and attacking play gets rewarded.
Sinner played well last year but lost to Zverev in the fourth round. Ahead of this year, Cahill thinks he can win it:
"Jannik is among those who can win the Slams. And I mean now, not in a year's time. Already at the US Open? He moves well on concrete and his play is powerful enough for that kind of surface. Because he is a very good guy, as well as a great player, and I like working with people like that. I'm not interested in the ranking, but in the person and the potential I see."
On Sinner's game specifically, Cahill added:
"His service is improving, such as the transition to the net and the game on the fly. He has made great progress in the last two years, first with Riccardo Piatti and then with Simone Vagnozzi. He has to think in perspective, knowing the kind of tennis he wants to play in two years and do everything to get there."
