Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has made significant strides to return to the ATP Tour following an injury suffered a few weeks ago, leading French journalist Benoit Maylin to comment on the former World No.1's rapid recovery.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion was on a quest to win his record-extending 25th Major title at the 2025 Australian Open. However, he hit a roadblock when he was forced to retire against World No.2 Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, citing an unknown injury at the time.
Following a medical examination, it was revealed that Djokovic had torn a muscle in his thigh. The Serbian would later confirm this diagnosis by posting images of the scan to social media. The recovery time for such an ailment ranged from a few weeks to two months, with many expecting Djokovic to be out of action till March.
However, the 37-year old announced he would be competing at the Qatar Open, which runs from February 17-23, 2025. This has led several fans to be skeptical on the nature of the injury, with French journalist Benoit Maylin chiming in on the matter.
"What do you mean Djokovic is going to play next week?"said Maylin on Winamax. "But in Australia, he had a torn thigh, as shown by an X-ray! He was going to be out for weeks, maybe months! And now he's going to play in Doha! No, seriously, what's the story again? Except that there isn't a story.
"What Djokovic has put in place over the past 25 years to find inner peace is unique. What athlete has 'monasticized' life to such an extent to be competitive? Who has worn the Bure robe of high standards for so long? Maybe no one in fact.
"From gluten-free to nanotechnology, via the esoteric, the mystical, the magic pyramids, Djokovic has built a body that recovers faster than normal. There are many examples of his resurrections (...) Yes, at almost 38 years old, his body is cracking more than before, but it also regenerates very quickly. Djokovic is not only a champion, a legend, he is above all an explorer of all areas of possibility. An example to follow for those who want to last at the highest level."
