Australia’s Alex de Minaur has expressed excitement about seeing fellow countryman Nick Kyrgios return to the court. The 29-year-old, who was once regarded as one of the best talents in the country, is set to return to the court after spending nearly two years on the sidelines.

During that time, the former world number 13 missed the last eight consecutive Grand Slams. However, Kyrgios is now set to return to action and will be taking part in the Australian Open in 2025. His countryman De Minaur recently spoke to Eurosport, where he expressed excitement to see the Canberra-born in action in the mega-event. The 25-year-old was of the opinion that Kyrgios has ‘incredible’ talent and that everyone is waiting to see him return to action in the first Grand Slam of the 2025 season.

"I think everyone in the whole tennis world is looking forward to having him back," said De Minaur. "He's obviously an incredible talent and has done some great things in the sport, so I'm sure the whole tennis world will be very excited to watch him play and compete again. He's been getting back from rehab, trying to do his best. I’ve seen he’s starting in Brisbane, so I'm sure there's going to be a lot of eyeballs on that."

Kyrgios does not have a great record while playing at the Australian Open. The best appearance of the former world number 13 in Melbourne came in 2015, when he was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to the former world number one Andy Murray in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. His last appearance in the Australian Open was in 2022, where he was knocked out after losing in the second round to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with a score of 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
