Holger Rune eases past Karen Khachanov into Barcelona Open final, seals top 10 return

Holger Rune dominated Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-2 to move into the final of the 2025 Barcelona Open where he faces either Carlos Alcaraz or Arthur Fils on Easter Sunday. He has been excellent this week and continues that rampant run.

Rune who is currently ranked World No.13 won't be there for too much longer. He has certainly sealed his top 10 return on Monday. He defied the Head to Head against Casper Ruud yesterday and made a point of pointing out that the ATP had also alluded to it.

So it is very much a mission of proving people wrong and that is in the territory he is in now. A once prodigious talent, he has the game but it is very much often in fits and starts.

He outclassed Khachanov throughout. He won through the opening set without even conceding a break point. He broke to love in the seventh game and then broke again in the ninth to claim it in just over half an hour.

Khachanov attempted to pick himself back up from that but he suffered another blow as Rune broke again to begin the second set in the second game as Rune then consolidated for a 3-0 lead. He saved two break points in the sixth game of the set. But Rune broke again in the ninth to claim it 6-2.

He wrapped up his win with an exquisite passing shot to reach the final for the first time and who can bet against him in particular if against Alcaraz with the odds stacked firmly against him he has thrived so who is to say he can't do it again.

Fils and Alcaraz are set to face off shortly but for Rune he is already through and has continued a great week no matter what happens on Sunday.
