Spain’s
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is eyeing a much-awaited
title after cementing his spot in the final of
Delray Beach Open. The
25-year-old defeated Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in the semifinal in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 6-4 to secure his place in the grand finale of the
competition.
It will be Davidovich Fokina’s first appearance in the final
of an ATP event. In 2022, he featured in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters
where he lost to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets with a score of
6-3, 7-6.
The Rincon de la Victoria-born has had a fabulous run in the
competition. He started with a win against Japan’s Taro Daniel in straight sets
with a score of 6-2, 7-6. In the second-round, he got the better of America’s
Mackenzie McDonald with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. In the third round, Davidovich
Fokina arguably produced the biggest upset of the competition as he defeated
the 2024 US Open runner-up America’s Taylor Fritz in straight sets with a score
of 7-6, 7-6.
Talking after the match, Davidovich Fokina stated that he
cannot explain his feelings after securing a spot in the final of an ATP event
after nearly three years. He also stated that he feels ready for the competition
on Sunday. “I cannot describe with words how I feel right now,” he said. “All
the work we’ve put in, my team and I every day, to be in one final again, it’s
not easy. I’m very, very happy for this win and I’m ready for tomorrow.”
Davidovich Fokina will face Serbia’s

in the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3 to secured his place
in the grand finale. This will be the third meeting between the two players. In
