Washington is experiencing a heatwave this week and players had trouble keeping themselves going in the tricky conditions. One that doesn't mind the heat and warm temperatures is
Nick Kyrgios as the Australian will contest the Washington final against Nishioka in a couple of hours.
Kyrgios is used to the heat but the lack of sleep has been a recurrent thing for him this week. Most of his matches finished really late and tennis players have long routines after matches.
Kyrgios is no exception and he explained why he only got to bad late after his match against Tiafoe:
"I didn’t get to sleep until 4.50 am, I just had so much adrenaline after (the Tiafoe win). I got some treatment and my body was just so sore after last night. It was an epic battle."
Kyrgios was noticeably flatter in his tennis against Ymer but was able to overcome it:
"I
didn’t really do much today but I felt like my energy was a little flat
early on today and it’s understandable, I’m only human. I didn’t play anywhere near my best tennis today and I don’t know. I served pretty solid. Obviously, my winning percentage behind my first serve would have been high, but from the back of the court I didn’t play well at all.”
The final will give Kyrgios a chance to win a trophy and he would like one, especially after failing to win Wimbledon:
"My
adrenaline for the final is going to be right there and I’m super
excited for it. I’ve got doubles tonight, work on my returns a little
bit. I returned pretty poorly tonight I’m not going to lie, so hopefully
I can turn it up a little tonight.”
