Carlos Alcaraz continues to stand strong in his title
defense at
Indian Wells, securing another impressive victory in two sets. The
world No. 2 triumphed over
Fabian Marozsan, his conqueror in the previous
Masters in Rome, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3. He will face the winner of the
match between Alexander Zverev and Alex de Miñaur in the quarterfinals.
"Honestly, I was nervous before the match, I won't lie.
Playing against someone who easily defeated you, where I had no chance during
the match in Rome, made it difficult for me to know how to approach the game.
But I did it very well; I started strongly, with my style from the beginning.
Today, I knew what I had to do, better than in Rome," analyzed Alcaraz
regarding the match's progression.
He also praised his opponent, who had defeated him in their
only previous encounter: "Of course, with the level he has, he is a great
tennis player. I am sure he will continue climbing in the rankings."
"After a great first set, I had to keep pressing in the
second, trying to break the serve as soon as possible, staying ahead on the
scoreboard, not letting him find his game. That's what I was thinking, and I
believe I did it very well; I pushed my opponent to the limit," commented
Alcaraz on his strategy in the second set.
He also discussed areas for improvement for Thursday's
match, where he will inevitably face a top-10 world player: "I think I
made some mistakes that I didn't want to. Probably, those are areas where I
need to be better in the next round. I need to serve better; I don't want to
say that I served poorly today, but I have to keep progressing, playing good
tennis on the court, and I hope to continue doing so in the next round."
