Andy Murray and Alexander Zverev have had their moments in the past and while the duo are not the best of friends Murray is looking forward to the match against the German. On his relationship with Zverev Murray said:
"I wouldn’t say we are best friends. We don’t really chat a whole lot."
Murray generally enjoys a cordial relationship with most players on the Tour but it's a bit different with Zverev. The Brit is a longtime self-described feminist and has called repeatedly on the ATP to impose rules for internal investigations for allegations of abuse. He also called on the ATP to impose very harsh punishments for those found guilty.
He never called out Zverev specifically but he has been the most vocal player about the issue in general of all and Zverev certainly noticed it. On his recent level he said:
‘I’m slowly starting to get there again, getting to a level where it wouldn’t be a surprise if I won a tournament. It’s not easy playing with metal hips, not easy with everything that goes into prepping and getting ready for these events. It is challenging but these wins make it worth it."
How far can Murray go against Zverev remains to be seen but expect quite a bit of emotion from both considering their history.
