"I'm 36. I have a kid. It's harder. And above all, I'm afraid of something. If I hurt myself again, it's over" - Monfils sees end in sight to career

Gael Monfils can see his career end in sight as the French player admitted that another major injury would definitely be the end of his tennis career.

Monfils missed about half a year of tennis following an ankle injury suffered last year. It's been one of many injuries in his career which is a shame because at times the French player hit a really high level. He will keep playing for now wanting to make it to the 2024 Olympics but he can also see the end.

Speaking with L'Equipe Monfils said:

"I'm coming back because I love playing tennis. But the end is there, you have to tell yourself. I have to set myself goals that are high enough for me to really motivate myself to play. The goal is to go to the 2024 Olympics."

On his retirement, Monfils added:

"I'm 36. I have a kid. It's harder. And above all, I'm afraid of something. If I hurt myself again, it's over. I know I'm on a thread. In your head, you're fine, you're happy to be back, but be careful."

His first match in six months came in Indian Wells
