The Indian Wells is being held this week for the first time since the pandemic and Andy Murray thinks it's a shame the big 3 is not here to experience it.
Indian Wells is by many regarded the biggest event outside of the four grand slams with many tennis players enjoying the event. The conditions are usually very good for tennis with a sensational tennis complex and huge stadium which is one of the best to play in. The event made his return this week for the first time since the pandemic and Andy Murray thinks it's a shame the big 3 are not here to experience it.
Murray, who had a long history with injury issues of himself expressed regret that none of the big 3 are able to be here:
“It’s unfortunate with Rafa and Roger being injured, and I think Novak, probably rightfully, is taking a break after the run that he’s had this year and just missing out at the US Open. But I’m happy myself to be here. It’s a shame for the tournament that they (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) are not here."
Murray also noted the strangeness of the situation as he is the only one playing out of the 4 which seemed unlikely a couple of years ago: “Certainly a couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have expected to be the only one playing.”
He finished up his thoughts with:
“Yeah, I mean, obviously with everyone getting older, there’s going to be times where those guys are missing, missing events. I’ve obviously had my fair share of misses the last few years like we were saying, [it’s been] four years since I’ve last been here.”
Murray will face Adrian Mannarino later today (03:00 CET).
