Jack Draper disposes of Tsitsipas in late-night Montreal thriller

In arguably one of the biggest matches of his career, Great Britain's Jack Draper defeated World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the round of 16 at the National Bank Open (Rogers Cup).

The late-night affair saw Draper record a 7-5 7-6(4) victory over the third seed, who looked out-of-sorts as his often reliable forehand failed him on several occasions. Known for his powerful groundstrokes, Tsitsipas was unable to keep the errors from mounting as he sprayed numerous shots wide.

Alternatively, Draper was able to minimize his errors as he engaged in long rallies with his Greek opponent. The 20-year old Brit displayed precision and composure that belied his youth, as he broke his higher-ranked opponent twice in the first set to obtain the advantage.

The second set saw Tsitsipas capitalize on some poor play from the Sutton native to lead 3-1, but Draper found back, breaking his opponent to level the score. A tiebreak ensued, during which the World No.82 maintained his composure to earn a minibreak, before securing the win after two hours of intense play.

Draper will face charismatic Frenchman Gael Monfils in the next round, with the duo never having met on the ATP circuit.
