Carlos Alcaraz has responded to comments from Patrick Mouratoglou, Naomi Osaka’s coach, who claimed that World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is “not above” the Spaniard. However, Carlitos did not entirely agree with the coach’s analysis.

Sinner recently won his third Grand Slam title by defeating Alexander Zverev in the final and has won 35 of his last 36 matches, with his only loss in that span coming against Alcaraz in the China Open final. The Italian remains firmly at the top of the ATP Rankings and is guaranteed to hold the position for several more weeks.

Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Serena Williams, recently stated that he does not believe Sinner is clearly superior to the rest of the field. “Jannik is not above everyone; I don’t think he is above Carlos. When Carlos is at his best, it’s a real match, and I’m not sure who will win—nobody can say for sure.”

However, in his recent press conference at the Rotterdam Open, Alcaraz gave his verdict on the matter, praising his Italian rival. “Jannik has proven to be the best at the moment. It’s crazy what he’s doing. I understand that people debate who is better between us, but for me and for the players who face him, Jannik is definitely the strongest.”

Alcaraz directly disagreed with Mouratoglou’s statement: “I don’t agree with what Mouratoglou said. Jannik has lost only four or five matches in a year; he has no ups and downs. In every tournament he plays, he either reaches the final or lifts the trophy.”

The Spaniard was also asked about Sinner’s withdrawal from Rotterdam, as the Italian had initially registered but later opted to skip the event to rest after his Australian Open triumph. “Sinner’s withdrawal? I understand. I know how difficult it is to stay healthy after going all the way in a Slam. I guess he didn’t feel ready to play another tournament so soon, which was a smart decision.”
