Brazilian wonderkid Joao Fonseca took the tennis community by storm at the start of the 2025 season, and could improve upon his already impressive form following his latest collaboration.
The Rio native shocked fans when he defeated the ninth-seeded Andrey Rublev at the 2025 Australian Open, and has since shown flashes of his enormous potential. It appears Fonseca could prove to be even more dangerous, as the 18-year old has begun working with the former coach of Argentine tennis legend, Juan Martin del Potro.
Although the Brazilian is currently coached by Guilherme Teixeira, Fonseca's coaching team have invited Argentine coach Franco Davín to accompany the youngster to the ongoing Miami Open. Davin worked with del Potro during the 2009 season, and aided the Argentine en route to his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open later that year.
Although Davin has been hired as a consultant, he is not officially a member of Fonseca's coaching team. Nonetheless, the Argentine coach will be present to analyze and help improve Fonseca's style of play, with emphasis on the Brazilian teenager's forehand.
Fonseca is coming off a title run at an ATP Challenger event in Phoenix, Arizona. The World No.60 is slated to battle rising American star Learner Tien in the opening round at the Miami Open, in what should be an entertaining rematch of last year's Next Gen ATP Finals championship match.
