Sebastian
Korda has decided not to participate in the
Miami Open in order to prepare for
clay court tournaments.
The
American tennis player has been out of action for several weeks since his
retirement in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open when he was down two
sets against Karen Khachanov. Since then, Korda has been recovering from a
wrist injury, which according to journalist Cristopher Clarey, is now almost
fully healed.
However,
the 22-year-old player decided to withdraw from the Miami Open to prepare for
the clay court tournaments in Europe. His return is scheduled for the ATP 250 Estoril Open, which will be played between April 3 and 9. Korda is currently
ranked world No. 26, his career-high ranking, although he will likely drop a
few places after the Miami tournament in the coming weeks.
“No Miami Open for
Sebastian Korda. The wrist injury that knocked rising US star
out of Aus Open is apparently healing well but he's focused on block of
strength and conditioning before returning on clay, perhaps in Estoril . One of
tennis's great young talents. Smart to be Smart,” said tennis journalist
Cristopher Clarey.
