Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios has given Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev a new nickname after his impressive outing at
Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam is moving towards a conclusion, and the remaining players are
giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Australia’s Kyrgios, who is currently spending time on the sidelines
because of a fitness concerns, in a post on his official account on the social
media platform X — previously known as Twitter — gave a new after his famous
win at Wimbledon. "The Slim Reaper (MEDVEDEV) was IMPRESSIVE. - best
match I’ve seen him play on grass…… playing with his return position and
choosing appropriate times to come forward make him DANGEROUS,” he wrote.
Medvedev registered a famous win over the current world
number one Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinal of the mega-event with a score of 6-7,
6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. The win was an important one for the Russian tennis star as
he suffered back-to-back defeats to Sinner in the previous two matches. One of
those defeats came in the final of the Australian Open where, in another five-set
thriller, it was the Italian tennis star who came out on top with a score of 3-6
3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3.
Medvedev is now set to face off Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in
the last four clashes of the mega-event. The current world number three defeated America’s
Taylor Fritz with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. It will be the seventh meeting
between the two. In the previous six meetings, the Spaniard had a clear edge
with four wins compared to Medvedev’s two victories. However, their head-to-head record is equal while playing on grass, as both emerged victorious on one occasion. Their most recent meeting came during the final of the Indian Wells
back in March earlier this year, where Alcaraz came out on top with a score of
7-5, 6-1.
