The organizers of
Laver Cup have announced that they are launching the host city bidding process for the 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 editions of the event, which has fast become a welcome staple on the ATP calendar.
The inaugural edition took place in 2017, with the team tennis event inspired by golf's Ryder Cup. It is named in honor of tennis legend Rod Laver, the only man to win two calendar-year Grand Slams. Hosted over three days, the competition features six top players from Europe competing against their counterparts from the rest of the world. Team Europe is captained by Bjorn Borg, whereas Team World is led by John McEnroe.
Slated to be held at the TD Garden in Boston this year and The O2 Arena in London in 2022, the organizers announced that they are launching the bidding process by inviting targeted cities to formally express their interest.
“The Laver Cup has surpassed expectations since it began back in 2017,” said Laver Cup CEO Steve Zacks. “In addition to generating immediate global interest due to its unique format and star power, the event has served as a catalyst for a wide range of economic, societal and business objectives for each of our iconic host cities to date. We look forward to working with our partners The Sports Consultancy to chart the future for the Laver Cup.”
With the previous editions being held in Prague, Chicago and most recently Geneva, the Laver Cup has generated an economic impact of up to $147M combined for the host cities.
“We’re thrilled to be using our expertise, experience and contacts to help secure host city partners for the Laver Cup,” Angus Buchanan, Managing Director and Co-Founder, The Sports Consultancy added. “The event has already been staged in some of the world’s most iconic locations and has quickly become a high demand property proven to deliver significant economic impact to hosts.”
