Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic continue their season of dominance with another final and it will be their first Olympic Games final where they will face compatriots Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig.
We have a historic all-Croatian final in Tokyo as Pavic and Mektic will face Cilic and Dodig. Both of these teams performed extremely well to reach the final and while Pavic and Mektic were expected to be there nobody saw Cilic and Dodig make it there.
Cilic and Dodig defeated Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus from New Zealand rather easily earlier today. Before that, they defeated Murray and Salisbury and they truly played some stellar tennis to be here. For Mektic and Pavic, it was a bit tougher but they managed to do it.
In the semifinals today they faced off against Krajicek and Sandgren and prevailed with ease. They will have a chance to win their first medals in Tokyo but to do that they will need to go through Cilic and Dodig. Either way, this is a huge success for Croatia who will get a gold and silver medal from the doubles tennis event.
It only remains to be seen which pairing will get which medal. History was already written with an all-Croatian final and it will get written once more when one of these doubles pairs becomes the first Croatian Olympic gold medallists in tennis.
