Several notable British figures have come out and criticized Emma Raducanu but Andy Murray was quick to fire back in the teenager's defence.
The story of Emma Raducanu at Wimbledon has been a fascinating one that has captivated the British public. The teenager seems like the biggest talent to come out of Britain since Andy Murray and that brings a lot of pressure. After her retirement, several British figures criticized the youngster and Andy Murray fired back.
British journalist Piers Morgan, known for outspoken and somewhat controversial views agreed with McEnroe in his assessment that the pressure got to her. He called the retirement a shame, not 'brave'. Murray fired back at Morgan saying the take was harsh.
Former English cricket player Kevin Pietersen also spoke on the matter saying dealing with pressure was a part of sport and it was the thing that separates the good from the great.
Murray agreed with his statement but questioned the validity of judging her mental toughness solely on one match. You can see the two exchanges below.

Think this is a very harsh take on the situation Piers

McEnroe told the truth. Ms Raducuna’s a talented player but couldn’t handle the pressure & quit when she was losing badly. Not ‘brave’, just a shame. If I were her, I’d tell my fans to stop abusing McEnroe, & seek his advice on how to toughen up & become a champion like he was.
